What is YOGA?

The word Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit root "yuj" meaning "to join, yoke, or direct one's attention on." It also means "union or communion." Yoga is the yoking together of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects in yourself. It is an ancient Indian system for developing perfect health and communion with the Divine.

What is NOT YOGA?

Yoga is not a religion. Yoga is not staring at a candle and breathing incense. Yoga is not only for supple young people. Yoga is not just lying around relaxing.

Who can do YOGA?

Yoga is for everyone. Yoga can be done by flexible or stiff people, strong or weak, elderly or young, and those with special concerns such as pregnancy. Yoga allows the student to individualize the asana (poses) for their specific needs. Focus on alignment and breath awareness learned from Yoga can be easily applied to other sports and activities

What do I need to bring to class?

Most importantly an open mind. A t-shirt and shorts or leotard and tights are recommended attire. Please do not eat two hours before class. For hygienic reasons, we recommend that you purchase your own sticky mat and bring it to class each week. Place your name on your mat. You will have the opportunity to purchase a sticky mat while registering for a class.

May I join at any time?

Yes, provided the class you wish to join is not already full. You are encouraged to register early to ensure your space in class.

Am I committed to the same class each week?

Yes. This is best for the instructor and to build consistency and a strong foundation for your Yoga practice. The sessions have been planned and there is an order to the sequencing that takes in several factors, one of which is who is in each class. If you change classes often, it will be difficult to monitor your progress and plan for future classes.

What do I wear?

Yoga asana is done barefoot, so be prepared to leave your shoes and socks on the shelves. Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Clothing should be comfortable but not baggy or over sized. The instructor should be able to see your hips, knees, and ankles clearly (shorts or footless tights are ideal). Do not wear jewelry or heavy perfume/oils/strong scents. If you perspire profusely bring a towel to class to place over your blanket. One should come to class clean and fresh. DO NOT workout BEFORE coming to Yoga class.

If question is not listed do not hesitate to ask our instructor. We will assist you as soon as possible.
